Botox Q&A
Why did you get botox?
It was never a question of if I would get Botox, but a question of when. I really believe in the adage that it’s easier to prevent than it is to correct when it comes to skincare. So, when I noticed that the lines in my forehead were starting to become more pronounced and that my make up would settle would start to in them that it was time to make my first Botox appointment.
How did you pick your doctor?
I had had my lips injected with Paula from Dr. Baumann’s Cosmetic Dermatology before, so I already knew that she would be a good fit to give me Botox. She is very conservative when it comes to injectables(a rarity in Miami), so I knew I was in good hands.
Where were you injected?
In my forehead and in between my eyes aka my elevens.
Did it hurt?
I’ve already had lip injections several times, so I wasn’t too nervous about Botox. The actual injections barely hurt as the had numbed me beforehand. After the injections I had a dull headache fore 24 hours. Nothing unbearable, but it’s something to consider if you are opting for a lunch break appointment.
Did you bruise?
Not at all – I avoided bruising by following these 4 rules:
- Take Arnica tablets for 3 days before to the appointment.
- Arnica is a great homeopathic remedy for bruising and swelling – For more on the benefits of Arnica check out this post.
- No Aspirin, NSAIDS (Motrin, Ibuprofen, Naproxen, Aleve, Advil) for one week prior to appointment.
- All of these drugs stun your platelets, which are the cells in your bloodstream that stop bleeding and bruising when your blood vessels and capillaries are damaged. If your platelets can’t do their job in sealing off the tiny capillaries that are disrupted during injectible treatments, your likelihood of getting a bruise is much higher than normal.
- No Wine or Alcohol for 48 hours before and after your procedure.
- Wine and alcohol also have some anti-platelet effects and increase your chances of bruising in the same way that Aspirin and NSAIDS do.
- No Working out for 24-48 hours after your procedure.
- Damaged capillaries need two things to repair themselves after an injection: functional platelets and minimal blood flow. Exercise and physical activity increases your heart rate, blood pressure, and the flow of blood through arteries, veins and capillaries, including the ones that get damaged during injectible treatments.
Would you get Botox again?
Absolutely! Paula (check out her instagram) did an amazing job and I am super happy with my results.
When will you go back for another appointment?
8-12 months depending on how long it takes for it to wear off. Since this is my first time I’m not sure how long the effects will last. Everyone is different.

I just had botox for the first time and I love it. To be honest, I had so much anxiety about getting it done. But it wasn’t as bad as I had thought.
