FIVE BOOKS I’M LOVING NOW:
1. Open Book by Jessica Simpson
I laughed, I cried, and now I’m recommending it to everyone I know. I’ve always liked Jessica Simpson, she’s a fellow Dallas girl so I’ve rooted for her. But after reading her book I am a STAN. I had no idea the depth of what she has been through in her life. She does not hold back, and I really appreciated that. So much of her story is relatable and I highly recommend it to anyone who has struggled with trauma, mental health, or addiction. PS. The audiobook is amazing because it is narrated by Jessica herself.
2. Crazy Rich Asians by Kevin Kwan
I was a little worried, that this book might be a bit repetitive since I’ve already seen the movie (several times). But I was fascinated at how much more in depth the book goes into the socio-economic hierarchy of the Chinese culture. There were honestly so many changes from the book to the movie, that I barely felt like I was reading the same story save for a few pivotal scenes. Overall it’s a super fun and easy read, and having seen the movie helped me keep all the names straight.
3. The Last House Guest by Megan Miranda
I just started this thriller during my trip to the Cayman Islands. I’m not too far into it yet, but so far I am intrigued! Without giving too much away, the story takes place in an idealic beach side town and begins on the last night of summer. At what is supposed to be a fun filled last blowout before all the tourists head back home for the fall, the three main characters learn that one of their own has met a grizzly end. This is a great story if you like campy mysteries.
4. Once Upon a Secret by Mimi Alford
This autobiography is written by former JFK White House Intern Mimi Alford. Bethany recommended this book to me a few years ago, and I still think about it all the time. After nearly 40 years of silence, Mimi finally comes forward with her affair with President John F Kennedy. It’s a tale as old as time, but through the lens of the me too movement this book is particularly interesting. I would recommend if you like historical autobiographies, and anything involving Kennedy scandal.
5. Atomic Habits by James Clear
I’ve had this book recommended to me by several people, so I figure why not use this time of social distancing for some self-improvement. According to the book jacket, after reading this I will be able to form new positive habits, break old negative habits, and “master tiny behaviors that lead to remarkable results.” I’ll keep you posted on my progress 😉
