This past Thursday, I left my Gigi’s lake house for walk with my boyfriend and came back with my fiancé! Little did I know that when Christian asked me to take my parents dog Bailey on a Thanksgiving afternoon stroll, that he had much bigger plans in mind. I grew up coming to Holly Lake Ranch, every summer and most holidays with my family so this place has always had a special place in my heart. Christian had never gotten the chance to visit, so when he asked for me to give him the lay of the land I didn’t think too much of it. I took him down Quail Run towards the lake and regaled him with stories of sleepovers, easter egg hunts, and pointed out where I learned to drive on the golf cart with my Gigi. The weather could not have been more beautiful, a slight nip in the air and not a cloud in the sky. So when we finally reached the waterfront, I led him over to a little wooden bench so the dog could rest while we took it all in. Looking back on it now the moment feels all the more perfect in its simplicity. There I was sitting by the water quietly content with the man I love.
When I stood to leave, I turned away to adjust Bailey’s leash. Then I heard Christian say “Baby, I need to ask you something.” I turned back around to see him on one knee holding a box with a ring. It’s all a bit of blur after that. I was literally speechless, and just started crying and hugging him. I managed to get out “I don’t know what to say!” To which Christian replied “Well ‘Yes‘ might be nice.”
“Yes. Yes! YES!”
Our walk back to the house was completely surreal. I was engaged! I couldn’t wait to get back and tell my mom (who shockingly kept the secret for 2 days), and see the rest of my family. I floated through the rest of the day on a cloud of champagne cocktails and engaged bliss. Needless to say it was my best Thanksgiving ever! Unbeknownst to me the surprises were far from over…but more on that next week.
My heart is so full, and I am so excited to get to share this adventure with y’all. I will be sharing regular Wedding Wednesday updates every week, so stay tuned 🙂
