When I first Moved to Miami, I thought I would go to the beach all the time. Then I moved and realized what a scene South Beach is 90% of the time. Don’t get me wrong there are some beautiful stretches, but the vibe is just so crazy all the time. I really prefer a calmer atmosphere that doesn’t include a hoard of tatted strangers blasting Pitbull. So when I do want to take a dip in the ocean, I opt for the Cape Florida State Park Beach located on Key Biscayne for three simple reasons.
1. The Lighthouse
Ever since I saw Pete’s Dragon when I was little, I’ve been obsessed with lighthouses. I just think that they look so cool and iconic! It probably also has something to do with living in landlocked states for most of my life haha. You can tour the lighthouse with a guide 10am & 1pm Thursday through Monday.
2. Clean
The sand is always completely pristine. I have not seen one water bottle, chip wrapper, or beer can littered about on any of my trips to this beach. I feel like there is a different attitude because it’s a state park, and people really take care to pick up after themselves.
3. Not Crowded with Tourists
This beach is a bit of a local gem off the beaten path, and doesn’t allow alcohol. So you don’t have to deal with the usual spring break beer bong beach crowd.
