A few months ago, for our two year anniversary, Christian decided to surprise me with a trip to the Finest Playa Mujeres Resort by Excellence in Cancun! He planned the whole thing from top to bottom which was SO unexpected and sweet. I’m sure some you can relate when I say that the majority of trip planning usually falls on my shoulders. So for him to take the initiative really meant a lot. Overall we loved the whole experience, but I thought I would share some of the pros and cons of the resort we stayed at for any of y’all that are looking to plan a trip.
THE PROS:
OUR ROOM
We were staying in one of the two-story suites in the Excellence Club. The room was amazing, giant rain shower, double sinks, walk-in closet, jacuzzi overlooking the ocean. But the best part had to be the rooftop pool! My favorite part was going up there for sunrise and sunset. There even was a whole patio set up complete with loungers and couches – I felt like we should make friends and have a party up there!
THE SPA
Spa credit was included with our package at the Excellence Club, and I intended to take FULL advantage. We both got Thai massages and it was incredible. Honestly, one of the best massages I’ve ever had. My favorite part about the whole experience was the quiet room after the massage. They had a bunch of waterbeds and two person rockers set up so you could keep relaxing after your treatment. I was so cozy snuggled up in my robe next to Christian, I legit almost fell asleep which is very out of character for me, haha. I told him we needed to buy one asap…come to think of it I still really want one! Maybe I can find it on amazon…
FOOD & RESTAURANTS
I had never been to an “all inclusive” resort before, so I was a bit skeptical. I don’t have an exacting palette by any means, but I can be a bit particular when it comes to food. My main worry was that I wouldn’t like anything and would be hungry the whole time– well, the exact opposite ended up happening. I loved EVERYTHING, which isn’t the best when you are in your bathing suit 24/7 but oh well. My favorite restaurant on the property had to be the Insieme Trattoria, the Italian place next to the pool. After all I really am a pasta girl at heart. Also, most everything was available via room service which was super convenient. The one thing we didn’t love was the Hibachi. But it may have been a bit too optimistic to expect amazing Japanese food in Cancun haha. The fact that we didn’t have to walk around with cash or wallets was also amazing. And the open bar(s)…16 to be exact, that was amazing too.
THE CONS:
The resort wasn’t adults only, which when we were booking the trip at least, I honestly didn’t think would bother me. However, nothing kills your buzz at the pool or a romantic dinner like a screaming toddler. Don’t get me wrong, I love kids, just not on my anniversary vacation. It wasn’t a deal breaker, but just something to think about if you plan on going during the summer or spring break. In the end, the access to the adults-only Excellence Club pool was what saved us. The good news is there are Adult Only resorts within the Excellence Family, so we can opt for one of those next time.
OVERALL EXPERIENCE:
Bottomline, we had a great time, and I would definitely recommend staying at the Finest Playa Mujeres by Excellence Resort. The Execellence Club was well worth it because of the access to the adults-only pool as well as the lounge. The resort staff was super friendly, the drinks were strong, and there were plenty of food options for even the pickiest eater aka me (12 restaurants total).
