I can’t believe I’ve been hanging out with this kid for three years now! Christian and I met while he was in Dallas for the FSU vs. OSU football game at Cowboys Stadium. We were introduced at a dinner by mutual friends, and there was an instant connection. It’s funny because neither one of us really planned on being there that night. Christian decided at the last minute to go on the trip, and I was in a terrible mood that day and decided last minute to go to the dinner. Funnier still was that neither of us even wanted a relationship. I had never really played the field and was excited to just date around in Dallas, and Christian had just started a new high pressure job with long hours and late nights. It’s a cliche for a reason, we make plans and God laughs, but when it comes to Christian and I’s relationship it couldn’t be more true.
I don’t talk about Christian a ton with y’all, so today I wanted to share three of my favorite things about him. Get it? Three things for three years? I’m so cheesy I could die but what can ya do haha.
He is the perfect combination of silly and smart.
While he has mastered the art of the “dad joke”, he also is one of the most intelligent people I have ever met. I love that I can come to him for advice on pretty much any topic, and be completely goofy and silly with him a moment later. He doesn’t take himself too seriously, which is an amazing quality in my opinion.
He never stops talking.
I am a fairly introverted person. I will never be accused of being outgoing. Christian on the other hand has never met a word he didn’t like. While it can sometimes be challenging for me to be with someone who is so chatty, over time I have realized what a blessing it is. He is constantly challenging me to break out of my shell, while I like to think I help him appreciate the quiet moments. Can’t have the Ying without the Yang.
He is inherently thoughtful.
A while back I wrote a blog post about my new office space and in it I mentioned that I love stealing acquiring cool looking pens from different hotels and restaurants on my various travels. I’ve never specifically mentioned this to him, but now everytime we go to new restaurant with a fancy pen he immediately pockets it for my collection. I find his thievery unbearably adorable haha. It’s a silly example, but it’s the little unexpected things that always mean the most to me.
